Weekend Panhandle fishing trip
« on: July 20, 2011, 08:39:23 PM »
Finally got a small break in work and am heading to Dauphin Island area to visit a buddy for a few days and taking the kayak. Wanting to do some redfish and trout fishing Friday and Saturday.  Any suggestions on areas to target or good guides would be much appreciated.  Taking a 6wt. and 9wt.

Going to Panhandle on Sunday and Monday to target Tarpon.  Going out with Shallow Water Expeditions.  Anyone on here use them before?

Been out with Shallow Water Expeditions many times and I'm yet to be disappointed. Those guys are the real deal and will put you on the fish, especially tarpon. Good luck and post us some pics when you get back

Heard nothing but good stuff from SWE. Good luck I think your in good hands.

Got back last night.  Didnt get one but had a few shots.  Preston at SWE was great.  My first time with a 12wt. so my first few shots sucked then got a couple good shots late but no eats.  I am told the fish are moving out and the numbers are way down from a month ago.  We saw about 30 on Sunday and 5 on Monday.  On Monday I only got 2 good shot, but made really good casts and presentations.  Just didnt want to eat.  That was what this trip was about.  Learning so I can hammer those big bastards in Key West in May and back down there next July.

Night fished in Dauphin Island Saturday and caught several big trout and probably 50 baby Reds.  Nothing that pulled back though.  Just teaching a buddy how to fish.

Doing a 2 day Redfish trip to Lousianna in October with SWE if anyone is interested.  Not sure of the dates yet.
