Leaves, doggone leaves!
« on: October 28, 2011, 09:42:04 AM »
...are getting knocked down en masse from the wind and rain. Fishing is going to be difficult for a while.

I spent yesterday afternoon on a Plateau river on the SUP. It rained intermittently with some pretty good wind gusts; seemed like the wind blew downriver as I paddled upstream and upriver as I turned around to fish. Probably 1/2 the river surface was covered with leaves, and some pools were completely covered. I wasn't thinking and took a fast-sinking line  --  multiple follows were cut short when the fly became entangled or fouled with leaves. One grab at boatside from a smallish fish, with no hookup.

Yeah, leaves are a pain! They opened up the Spillway on our tailwater Yesterday, hoping it will flush out some of the leaves and debris.

This storm should knock most of the leaves off the canopy.  A couple weeks, that clear water will be prime musky huntin' grounds....as long as you don't fall off the paddleboard!  Let me know if youre up for some fishing 2nd weekend of Nov.

Sounds tough Dave!  Better focus on the yard for a couple of weekends, huh...

I'm not worried about falling off. Between a couple of different wetsuits and a drysuit, I'm set. I picked up a deck rigging kit and some other hardware  yesterday to be able to secure gear better and keep rods lashed down, hope to install that today.

Travis, I can't do that weekend. There's a big gathering of ichthyologists in Chattanooga, and we're hosting an after-meeting party...
