East Fork 3/22/07
« on: March 22, 2007, 06:17:14 AM »
Put in around 5pm yesterday and fished till dark. The Stripe are in the river but not in big numbers yet. We caught about 20 and 50% were yellow Stripe. I didn't have a cooler or I would have eaten those yellow ones. They are much better to eat then the whites. I forgot to put my spinning rod in the boat so I didn't try for any Crappie. By this time next week I think everything will be in full swing.

Saw the Owl again as it swooped down on something on the ground right at dusk. The bird population around here is really starting to grow. We're regularly seeing birds now that I had never seen in the wild.

Mike, I've been all over the yellow bass for the last couple weeks.  Not much luck on the crappie, but there is a bumper crop of yellow bass in the East Fork.

It seems to me like the yellow bass are running a bit bigger than usual this year.  I had several that were much larger than average.  Did you see the same thing?

And yes, the yellow bass are excellent eating if you can catch them big enough.

What patterns seem to be working?  Sinking or floating lines?  TIA

I saw a couple that were nice sized BD. IMO the Yellow's rank right up there with Crappie and Bluegill as far as table fare. BD maybe try Fall or Stewart creeks for Crappie.

Glen I was a 250 grain and a small white/Chartreuse Clouser. Imagine that.... I was having more luck right on the bottom yesterday.

West fork is where I usually go for Stripe but Mona was closer and it was late.
