Anyone ever tried this? Painted black it would be deadly at night or there are several other options I could think if.

Never tried that exactly, but I've tried bass poppers at night for trout a couple times. It wasn't as effective as I hoped it would be, but maybe I just didn't have it fully dialed in.

I catch several at night on poppers more so than a mouse pattern. The trick is to not pop it if that makes any sense. You want it to move making a V wake. Essentially the mouse and it are doing the same thing.
