The rivers are UP in my area.  I went out this morning, but high muddy water made it difficult.  I had a buffalo on but lost it, however, I managed to save the day with a nice 4.5 pound drum that came as the sun was really starting to heat things up.  The drum seem to to follow the carp onto the flats - when the sun heats up and hits the water hard, the carp leave the flats and the drum come on and start their feed...

Guys I don't even want to admit to how many hours I have spent chasing carp this month.  I lost a really nice one my first trip out and have only one caught fish to show for my efforts.  Ke ;)ep in mind I am really having a great time but I am due some hook-ups.  Went back this morning wJPP and wow.  My flats are now 3ft under new water and off color.  I did a lot of exploring and found some new flats.  Even found  a few carp feeding on newly accessable vegeation or deep water.  What's a guy to do next.  I'll try my walk in areas until next Sunday.

It's been a few years since I fished Percy Priest, but last time I was around the Smith Springs area, there were some big drum that would come up along the bank and just cruise along feeding.  Usually I'd see them a few feet off the shore, about 2-4 feet deep.  From a distance they'd just look like a dark gray or black spot moving along the bottom.  They are tough to get a fly in front of but I caught a few that generally ran 6 or 7 pounds.

I haven't been to Priest in a while though.  Old Hickory has been pretty good to me so far this year.  I found a big willow fly hatch this weekend, and it was on like Donkey Kong.

Thanks. The only problem with that is that my wife talks about it to folks who don't know fly fishing, and when she describes my hardcore carp fishing prowess, it just doesn't get the respect it deserves in certain circles. :)

We need a movie to make it more glamorous. Quick, somebody call Brad Pitt and see if he would be willing to star in A Drainage Ditch Runs Through It!

Thanks.  The whole tournament was a whole lot of fun this year. Lots of people participating, tough competition, and a great party as always to close it out.

The folks who didn't fish it really missed out.

I missed the party - but congrats!  Awesome fishing with an impressive weight total!  I wish I could've been there tonight, but I am buried at work.
