Caught my 1st Brookie today on the Elk
« on: August 24, 2012, 02:49:52 PM »
I decided to take a day off and chase some trout on the Elk.  I'm always an early bird and got to the river at 5, pumped up the one-man pontoon and waited until it was light enough to see... then started chunking streamers.

The river sure needs a good flushing, the junk on the bottom is just nasty.

Congrat's on the brookie, i think Tims Ford is the only Dam in the state that dosen't do a thing towards trout management other than the poor CFS release which is almost a joke to boot.

I have 16 more straight work days until my next unscheduled day off. But I will not fish the Elk until TVA runs water. My next trip will more than likely be our FFF fall club trip to the White, Sam is getting to go hang with the boys :) Taking him to Dry Run Creek until he tires of big fish.

Has he been there before? He is going to be spoiled for life fishing there! Hope you guys have a good trip.

We had big plans to go couple times this summer but my 7 days week work stopped that. I'd like to ruin him :)

Well, there's the Duck. Sometimes I wonder if we would be better off if they just worked on warming up some of the more marginal tailwaters and managing them for smallmouth.

The Duck does get as warm as a bathtub this time of the year.

I have wondered about this since I first visited the Duck below Normandy Dam.  That is not a trout tailwater in my mind, but it could be an awesome smallmouth river.  I would be nice to see them look at some river bass fishing in addition to just stocking trout...
