Questions for you Elk guys.
« on: September 24, 2012, 09:33:06 AM »
Caney is blown up for a while at least without my outboard it is for me. Obey may be an option but its schedule is hit or miss.

What type of flow do I look for on the TVA site that tells me its wade friendly?

Where is an easy access or is there a map with accesses?

How's the fishing down there currently?

I have never been to the Elk. Just trying to figure out if its worth it for some trout since Tim's Ford Dam is 105 miles and Dale Hollow Dam is 84 from my house.

Thanks.

LOL...

Just realised I asked the same question about a year ago and never made it down there.

How's the fishing is it worth the drive or just head to the Obey?

I haven't been in a while, but the last report I got from David Darnell wasn't good. Maybe he would know something more current.
"Often, I have been exhausted on trout streams, uncomfortable, wet, cold, briar scarred, sunburned, mosquito-bitten, but never, with a fly rod in my hand, have I been in a place that was less than beautiful."

You have an all day chance on the Elk & partial on the Obey, or there's always smallies closer by.

The Elk has been fishing well for the past several weeks.  If you're fishing by the dam then try a size 16 light or translucent green soft hackle.  Last time I was there I was onto a fish every 3rd or 4th cast.  Further downstream you can go a bit larger... but the wading is good and although the fish are smallish, they're fun.
