Outstanding. I'll probably use the remainder in a cream sauce over pasta tonight.

Oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus. That snag should continue to produce them through the winter... might be worth a trip back!

Dave, is there a good resource to learn more about the wild TN mushrooms? Always wanted to try some when out backpacking or bring some home from hiking but don't know enough to risk trying it.

Go with someone that knows them. Something like this would be $5 very well spent:

There's a few field guides that are pretty good, but you then have to trust your own ability to identify mushrooms based on a short description and a photo or drawing. There's a handful of species that I'm comfortable picking and eating (most of which don't have toxic look-a-likes), and I generally don't try new ones unless I'm with someone that knows them very well or can have somebody verify my provisional IDs.
