Fishing option this weekend
« on: April 10, 2007, 10:59:31 PM »
I've got a half-day open on Saturday and I'd like to hit some water.  Don't know if I'll make it over to the Caney (I've got a few full days next week reserved for that  ;D  ), but are there any other options fishing well right now?  I know this time of year brings loads of opportunities, I've just been buried and not keeping up!!!  Nice Mill, Walter Hill, JPP tribs???

Thanks,

Todd

If you are looking for warmwater flyfishing goto Old hickory Lake...the fishing is awesome right now.  Bas, bluegill, crappie and a few others.

Good Luck,
Gary

If this rain don't mess it up I'd say anywhere you go will be good. I hear Priest is fishing well for Hybrids.

yeah - rain is now a definite factor   ???

I may try to get out and wade some shallow bays in Priest or Old Hick and see what happens.  This rain will have the creeks and rivers muddied up I'm afraid...

Is there any wading access to Suggs Creek?  The last time I was out there, Stewarts Ferry was closed off where it crosses the lake over Suggs, and the only way in looked like a long wade from Mt. Juliet Rd....  Would probably only be possible in low water though....

Thanks,

Todd

You might want to give Old Hickory Cove a look see. It should still be pretty easy to get around the shoreline there with the low water.

Is that ramp closed now? I swear I think it was closed off when we came thru the other day.

I couldn't say that it is or isn't closed.  I do know there are other ways to the shoreline without a boat though as I saw several people wandering around through there fishing a couple of weeks ago.

Also, I don't know how they find their way there but I have seen shoreline fishermen out at the end of the point that everyone fishes in Suggs (actually inside the creek). It stays pretty shallow pretty far out the point with deep water off both sides too as I'm sure you know.

Now that I think about it there must be some decent shoreline access in the Seven Points area too as this seems to be a popular spot for waders and is one of the few places on JPP I have personally  seen folks fly-fishing for hybrids/stripers more than once. (just outside Suggs)

Thanks BandDad, I'm gonna look into that Seven Points area - I've been Google-Earthing that area trying to find some new access areas to try...
