Pattern Question
« on: February 16, 2013, 06:22:31 PM »
Searching for patterns earlier and came across this. This is a rookie question, but how would you build a head on a fly like this? Spinning Deer Hair? I kind of get that affect when I tie bucktail in and spin it. Looks pretty sweet. Any ideas?

That looks like reverse tied buck tail and the cut the head like spun hair
I just don't care!

I am Jarrod on that. Reverse tied, easier to do than spinning, although spinning isn't that difficult.

I'll give it a shot. What would you guys trim it with? I know some people use flexible razor blades for spinning hair.

Yes, you want to use a double edged razor blade (fits in an old school safety razor handle).  Carefully flex it by squeezing the ends together to get the rounded contour your looking for. ;)
