How's this for torture?
« on: March 18, 2013, 12:09:43 PM »
I am working in Washington State during the 1st week of April.  The group I work for is always kind enough to carve out a few days for fishing on my behalf, and on this trip I had 2 full days set aside and I will be staying in a cabin approximately 40 yards from the river.  The steelheading this spring has been incredible there, and my friends have been sending me photos of some incredible fish they are catching over the past few weeks.

Well...  Wash. St. wildlife officials have just announced this morning that all rivers will close one hour after sunset on March 31 and will remain close until June...  I will be staying 40 yards from a river that will off-limits to fishing.   >:( :-[ :'( :-\ :-X :(

Hopefully Karma may have her eye on me.  I am signing papers (I hope) this weekend for a 3 week trip to Norway in mid-June where I will be recording an album in a cabin 3 hours North of Oslo that sits on a private lake fed by 2 rivers that is home to some giant pike.  One of the guys in the band found out I am into fishing and sent me some pics of pike his family catches on this lake that made me week in the knees!

Similar thing happen to me in Oregon.  Trying for some springers but timing was off, so I ended up turkey hunting and sturgeon fishing.

Duuuude... I hope everything works out and you get to go. I kicked around Norway almost ten years ago with my girlfriend (now wife). What a spectacular country -- the Hardanger is one of my all-time favorite places. You're shorting yourself if you only focus on pike -- salmon season should be in, browns will be hungry and crusing, char should still be shallow enough to fish to in the lakes (particularly if you head north a bit or go up on the plateau)... and if you get to the coast, almost any rocky outcropping will have pollack cruising around it -- well worth throwing clousers to. I missed at least two ferries because I got distracted by big pollack cruising around in the clear water of the fjords. I made the mistake of only taking a 6wt (I'd only planned on a bit of trout fishing) and got worked over pretty good. You might just want to extend your stay by another week or two and beg, borrow, or rent a car.

Does the band need some photo work?  ;D
Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

Oh, don't worry - I will be throwing to anything that swims and throwing it anywhere I can get to!  They key advantage, though, is that this lake and 2 streams are within walking distance, or at the least a very short drive!  It appears there are several boats on the property too!

We will be near Torberget, which is about 50 miles east of Lillehammer.  Do you know that area by chance?
