From the poop that I'm getting 2nd and 3rd hand there are still fish in some of the deeper holes, etc between access points, but there's nothing of any quantity/size near the access points.  I've been monitoring the pool at the bend below the dam about a mile and you don't even see the rises to midges anymore.  This time of year used to furnish 20+ fish days on a regular basis at either the dam, the General's place, or Ferris Creek... now you're lucky to get 1 or 2 dinks at the bridges and a few 6 inch browns elsewhere.  I haven't seen anything over about 10 inches for a year plus, and I suspect that the only thing being stocked are 6 inchers.

Sad situation.

Ralph please feel free to use this board as a means of getting the word out and helping to make change. I'm with you guys 100% and will do whatever I can to help draw some attention to the issues over there.

Thanks Mike,
I would like to get with you and fish sometime. Caney Fork Outfitters is having a demo day this weekend I believe. I may try to make it over there.

There is something really wrong going on in that river.....

Yep, two years ago I went every weekend. I've been twice in the last two years.

Yuck...  It's hard to get motivated and gas up the car to drive 90 minutes for an honest shot at a 10-inch fish...

Your missing Black Fly, scud, and sowbugs big time. Ever see Crawfish or Sclupin in there David?  I've only fished the river twice in two years so I shouldn't even be complaining but,,, both times I noticed that once you leave the stocking areas the Trout numbers go way down. I know every river is different and I may not be fishing it properly or have the best bug for it but you should at least see more fish than we did floating along stealthy in a standing position. The fish that do make it seem to be in perfect condition and very feisty so there is hope.

Does anyone know the number of Trout stocked into the river the last few years?

Didn't something happen a few years ago that made them warm the lower section up for a minnow of some sort?

In the past we had tons of scuds ans sowbugs, now I see none, a crawfish from time to time, few sculpins, see more leeches than anything else.

I try to talk to TWRA, TVA when I run into them but they don't seem to be interested in the overall conditions of the river,

here is a link to TVA

3 years ago the river was fishing pretty well then all of a sudden it turned south and quick. I have caught fish in the past year and half but nothing like it 3 years ago. The amount of grass has actually picked up over the past few years but I too havent seen any bugs inhabiting it.
The more I fish the more I realize it isn t about the fishing.  The older I get the more I realize it is about the moments God has hand crafted just for me.
