Pal hasn't fish the river in years I'd bet.

When I was there a few months ago, it fished ok as long as you didn't get too far away from the stocking locations. BPT's did the trick for me.

Decades...and last time I fished it I broke the tip off my 9wt.  Epic battle--I stuck something, rod begins bending,  ole Anderson running the boat.  Winds blowing from the northeast, its about 28 degrees out---and I see my fly.  Just sitting under4 feet of water on a branch.  Hmmmm, well you know.

You hung up in the Elk and your tip ended up in the Caney? Impressive!

They say it's fishing fairly well, brookies very aggressive as well as the bows, not to many report's on the browns.

well...we fished today from daybreak till 12 at the dam and ferris. between me and my buddy, we caught 2 brookies, 1 bow, and 1 tiny brown. water was clear and low! had a party of around 15 tubers float by at ferris and about 10 yaks and canoes. i dont see myself going back, too much wrong with the place to get up a 3:30, burn gas, and dodge all the floaters for less than good fishing. a year ago, i wouldve never imagined saying that....something needs to be done about the fishery.

A friend and I hit the Elk on Father's Day AM and managed about 20 fish apiece in two hours... primarily small browns, with a couple 'bows thrown in.... did not see a single brookie.
