I've been happy with my Patagonia SST, expensive, but it works. They replaced my first one after 11 years because the inside lining gave out.
Arcteryx, OR, Marmot, Mtn Hardware, Patagonia are brands i'm familiar with & folks are happy with them. I'm sure other folks will chime in with other brands as well.

I have some expensive rain gear from Russell outdoors.  It is ok.  Not great.

I'm with Grumpy on the SST. Awesome jacket. Also have a Simm's G3 that works great although it has only been worn a few times.

If you wear XL we should talk, I can part with the Simm;s for a good deal.

I am pleased with the Patagonia Rain Shadow, but staying dry this time of year is a chore. If the rain doesn't soak you the condensation will. If you are wanting one with the large pockets for fly boxes, then I would look at the SST or the Simms. I bought mine 1 size larger so I can layer during the cooler months.

I can't add much on what you should buy but I was tempted to pick up some Frogg Toggs for warm weather fishing and I can say without hesitation....don't waste your money.  That stuff is like sitting outside with newspaper over your head...it's doesn't take lond and you're soaked.

Y'all check this out- saw it on another boating/fishing site:

www.neverwet.com  - A "Superhydrophobic" coating that can be sprayed on just about anything.

Rustoleum partnered with them to market a kit for $20 that'll cover 10-15 sq. ft. You can get it on Amazon and locally at Home Depot.

According to their FAQ's it's breathable if you do a light coat of the base layer.

Would be good for gear bags and whatnot, but not really a great solution for outerwear unless it's to rejuvenate previously waterproof stuff.  Best I can figure it's like Scotchguard on roids.  No Home Depot in my little town or I'd post up a review.

There are lots of youtube videos on it.  Pretty cool!

Go look at the reviews. I have been looking at it. It leaves a white film on whatever you spray it on.

Has potential. There is a commercial version that is much better.

The white film is an issue.

The technology doesn't seem to be all that new.  Maybe I've been taken by their licensing/marketing, or maybe just missing something as I remember playing with "magic sand" as a kid- same properties, and that stuff got on there somehow.  Maybe these guys came up with a way to spray it.  Who knows.

Some of the reviews mention that they might be making a new version that will remain clear, and hopefully with UV inhibitors.  Something to watch either way.

Endless uses for this stuff if they can get it right.

I've got two old cabelas  jackets that I haven't had an issue with. That said the Simms Jacket I have is a much better jacket. Main thing I like about it is that it won't soak and get heavy. I prefer a thin rain jacket.

I vividly remember one of those days!!!  I need new rain gear too.

That was the only day ever that the environment just shut me down for fishing.  I can't believe I wussed out.  No musky love for wimps in the rain!
