See gonfishin posts on the previous page. I have heard good results from his services on the SEFF board.

How’s your casting?? I mostly use advanced methods like Shooting heads, streamers, high water and boat fishing, but I can also help get you started with basic fly fishing around here. My rate is $250 for one angler.

I'm not sure what Game Fair, Cumberland Transit, or Fly South Rates are but those places can also get you started in the Mid TN area and may be a better choice for a beginner as I know many of the guides they use are also casting instructors.

Flies I'd recommend for a beginner on the Caney are
Pheasant tails
soft hackles
Pheasant tails
woolly buggers

I can attest that Mike will take good care of you. I have been out twice with him and have had great success and in the process have increased my knowledge tremendously.

As well, I fished my arm off  ;D

Just like Mike I get $250 for a single person trip for a full day. I assess your current skill level first thing and then throughout the day we work on improving all aspects, like casting, reading the water, fly selection, and many other aspects. When you are done with your day you will be a better fisherman.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Just noticed this post--would have chimed in much earlier.  I STRONGLY Recommend that you visit Eddie Wyatt in Piney Flats---just past Winged Deer Park.   His shop is called Fly Shop of Tennessee. He and Ben are exceptional in their knowledge and willingness to help anglers of all experiences.  They'll show you directions on maps to all the places you need to find and provide you with a great introduction into this sport.  I've been involved in flyfishing for about 18 years and Eddie was the mentor who helped me start the right way.  His fly shop has everything you'll need.
