Zoo Cougar Help
« on: September 12, 2013, 05:05:06 PM »
The last few ones I have bought worked fine but there is a couple in the box now that drive me nuts. I am not a tier so I have no clue as to why they barrel roll back on the retrieve. The line isn't twisted either.

Any of you fly tiers have a remedy?  Could it be a symmetry issue? I hate to just chuck em.

Thanks.

I'm by no means an expert but I've had some of my own do the same thing and it was due the mallark flank I used.  You have to sort through a large number of feathers in a pack to find a few that are straight enough to work correctly....or it could have been the number of adult beverages I consumed during the tying scessions.

Rusty is right.  The Mallard flank has GOT to be flat, not curved to one side or the other.

I hate that pattern for that reason....

Also make sure and tie it on with a loop knot, no clinch here.

And yes, mallard flank has to be flat.
