Adobe CC
« on: December 29, 2013, 10:41:39 PM »
I'm pretty frustrated to hear that adobe is throwing its users under the bus with this "creative cloud" subscription BS. What this means is that soon if you want an updated version of Adobe photoshop or lightroom you will have to start paying a monthly rate of $19 per month and up. Yea I'm going to give them 20 a month for the privy of using their software. What a betrayal.

I am afraid that is going to be the future of creative software.... You will have to pay to play. The "new" versions will probably not be that much better than the old.

I suspect Adobe will begin to see more competition. Gimp has long been known as close enough to PS and it's always been FREE. To me this is blatant betrayal. Thousands of people have their entire image collection tied up in adobe products and will soon have no choice. The old stuff only works so long. If you buy a new camera body that the old LR doesn't support your screwed. Sorry about the rant but I don't want to be forced to pay for product that I may not need or want. As bad as it will suck, I'll leave Adobe for good if they keep this idea up. No wonder apple and Adobe didn't play well together.

I agree with you Mike. You pay for the software and now they want to move you to a subscription service so they can perpetually get your money. Sad.

Sounds kinda like ObamaCare.  They get everyone to sign up on their "Plan" with no alternatives.  The Paranoia factor of losing your enhanced  image library if you don't stay current with the auto draft payments.
Mike, its probably worth it for your dollar, since you've stayed so Loyal to their product line...but someone like me who just uses the basic functions...it makes me nervous to jump on the train of another financial commitment.
I believe I'll explore the alternatives first.

Travis if I were you I'd go with Lightroom 5 since they are offering it to own. I just don't think there is an alternative that comes close (can't believe I'm saying that). Plus if you need help, and you will, there are plenty of videos out there. If you were mac you could go with Apples Aperture but I've had both and though Aperture is a great program the noise reduction (at that time) was nowhere near what Lightroom had. That could have changed by now though.

You can, and the jump will be a very good one. There is an upgrade option that's cheaper so be sure to get the upgrade. I always bought mine from Adobe so that I could always go there to get the serial number if needed.
