Sunny Feb Weekend Hikes

Two new Hikes for the Wiles' this weekend.
Saturday, Crystal, Breelyn, and I took a drive and found some incredible new eateries in Asheville.  The Lucky Otter, and later Baan Thai in Alden near Hendersonville.  With a sketchy tip from a hiking buddy, we drove up a mountain top near Chimney Rock, and did a short hike to an incredible overlook.  Breelyn was thrilled by the outdoors, and remained fascinated with everything she could pick up in the woods....Hopefully a great sign of things to come.















Now today...instead of going to the gym, I decided a hike up the road from the house for more enjoyable cardio. Crystal and Bree rested at home after church while I went to scout a future family hike.  Now I am totally ashamed to say, I've lived here for 4 years now, and this is my first ascent up this ridge.  I've got some weight to lose, so I think this set of switchbacks will be a great place to burn off some winter flab.  1.5 miles from my doorstep:

We're shopping now for a baby backpack and some hiking poles....hope to see more of the local landscape with the whole family this spring.

I liked the chest carry much better than a backpack style carrier.  However, you can't carry as much weight in the front.  When on the back, you can't do anything to help the kid (bottle, pacifer, snacks etc).  Hiking canes are a must, unless you stay on the super tame paths.

We bought ours used (hard to find because they sell quickly).  Of course selling quick is nice when they out grow it.

Love me some Lucky Otter!  Been one of my favorites for awhile.  Black Cat in Boone is the same menu/restaurant.
