Upper Caney Trib
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:48:49 AM »
Got out with the boys last weekend for what was really just supposed to be a short family weekend in the country to recharge the batteries.  We found a nice little cabin that had no internet or cell phone service...and it just so happened to have a stream in the back yard...I honestly knew nothing of the area and just hoped to be able to cast to something over the weekend with the boys.  Turns out it was a beautiful cold water stream!  The fishing wasn't non-stop action, but it was a great time exploring new water with my boys and the highlight of the trip was seeing my 11 year old pull in what is to this date the fish of his life...all fish were caught and released on the fly.  My son caught his on a small black wooly bugger that Sam Looper gave us.  Mine were caught on that raggedy wooly bugger I tied up and posted here a few months ago.  I tried hard to get a good picture of Ian with his fish, but he was so excited that I couldn't get him to calm down enough for a good shot!

Here are a few photos from the weekend:

That's exactly why places like that are on the map....for that kind of fishing. I remember some of my first trout encounters vividly...and they are truly special.  Your boys will have a fire for fishing that runs deep...with memories of places like that they explored with you.

Thanks for the post.
