Making Some Progress
« on: December 16, 2014, 04:55:11 PM »
Went today from 10:30 to 3:00.  I floated down in my NRS Gigbob and after an hour of casting I had my first Musky follow ever.  I was slow rolling my lure and the Musky was about a foot behind it and a foot or two below it.  My heart was racing because I have been trying so long and have never even seen one. I attempted a figure 8 but the Musky veered off and disappeared into the depths.  I stood up on the Gigbob to get a better view and began casting back to the same area.  After 5 casts a Musky followed my lure again but I couldn't get it to strike on the figure 8 and it veered off.  I had to leave at 3:00 but i'll be back tomorrow to try again.

Keep on em!! Next time you get a follow, try a speed change, and a depth change. sometimes that triggers them. I went yesterday, had a few follows and one take but it seems I had a bad hook on the back of my fly!!! >:(

Well, you know more about bad hookers  than I do Grump.... but I'm pretty sure it was the hook.

Fished today from 7:30 to 2:00.  I stood up on the Gigbob for most of the morning and had no action.  Around 11:00 I needed to rest my legs so I sat down and began making casts.  After a few casts a massive Musky followed my lure back.  This Musky dwarfed the one that followed yesterday. It was difficult to do a good figure 8 while seated in an inflatable pontoon.  I already had my rod tip in the water so I just put the rod straight down between the pontoons and began making large circles directly below me at varying depths with the lure.  The Musky followed the lure around one circle and swam off.  The water was very clear so I had a nice view of the fish.  I definitely need to work on my figure 8's.  I spent the rest of the day experimenting with different retrieves in hopes of getting a strike but had no luck. I have to do some holiday travelling so I will have to wait a little while before I can go out and try again.
