What the heck is up with the Hiwassee?
« on: June 17, 2015, 07:46:33 AM »
Had a group of folks out snorkeling last week after the rains; figured the tailwater wold be the clearest water around. Spring Creek was dumping mud but the mainstem above it was still clear. Most of the trib is on NF land, but there's some private inholdings up higher in the drainage. Anyone know if they're logging or putting a new road in up there?

Yesterday afternoon  I tried to fish the mainstem Hiwassee down lower. Still muddy, <2' visibility.

I'm very surprised to see that much mud, a full week later with no additional rain...

Without additional rain, something bad going on then.
