Well, the Alewives are spawning in our mountain lakes. If you can manage to fish past midnight, you can witness the entire lakeshore come to life with pods of circling baitfish splashing in the trees, with an occasional loud pop! As the Walleyes snatch them off the surface, much like snook in the mangroves. The same fish would bust on the same tree about every 2-5 minutes....and if you could time it right, he'd grad a jerkbait or surface wake bait amongst thousands of live minnows.
Pretty darn fun, and exhausting at the same time.
Jay landed one just over 6 lbs, mine was 4.5 lbs. Released another just shy of 18", and released a nice largemouth as well.
Can't wait to fry up the fillets.
