Dad's Musky Quest
« on: December 18, 2015, 01:51:32 PM »
Recently, after a few profound  reminders of how precious and uncertain life really is, I decided it was way overdue to get Dad back in the boat on the quest for his first musky.

With the December temps pushing 70, it was a great afternoon to get out in the sunshine on a peaceful stretch of river.
My father has begun losing his vision in the past year, so we worked on a routine of how to get him situated in the boat to become more familiar each time we go out, as his sight dwindles.

I managed to hook a smaller fish in the first 5 minutes of fishing, but that was our only opportunity of the day.   Dad swung a few hard hooksets like a major league batter---pulling up a clump of leaves or a small branch from the river bottom. With that enthusiasm, I just know he'll get his fish on one of the next few trips.  Still, it was great to get out with Dad and enjoy the beauty of God's creation.

Travis I've never seen your dad until now. He's a fine looking man and has raised a great couple of sons. Congrats on spending time with him buddy. Best investment you could ever make with your time.

Thanks Guys
I know I've posted the same stuff on Facebook...but I know this report would be most appreciated and understood here.

Sharing a beer on the river with my father and just having some simple conversations about life and God just couldn't feel more right.
Dad's had a couple boat side close calls with some nice fish.  It's kinda tough when you can't see 'em coming on the approach to respond.
I know it's not the landed fish that makes these trips worth while....but it sure gives us a good excuse to keep going back.

I should get out a few times this January. Whenever it's warm, Dad will be out as well.

Merry Christmas

Building those memories with Dads are very precious.
