Well The Yamaha isn't doing well. It was running fine last time I had it out but it had had some overheat issues due to a bad impeller that year. Now it won't run hardly at all. I cleaned the Gas. Changed the Plugs. I even took the carbs off and went through them (they were clean). Finally I narrowed it down to one cylinder so I switched power packs and still no good. Last thing I tried was a compression test, Hey it's a Yamaha I never dreamed it didn't have compression! Sure enough, the readings were #1 30 #2 50 #3 120. I'm not sure but I suspect it's a blown head gasket (fingers crossed). This engine has had the absolute HELL run out of it for about 8 years. I don't mean mild use either. I ran it WOT everywhere I went and holy hell have we gone some places together. That moter is like a brother to me and mean that. It's taken me and my friends to places that you can't even imagine the spender, and then always got me home. I just can't part with it!
I'm seeking advice on working on it. I'm fairly confident that I can pull the powerhead and then remove the head to inspect. I've done this on a few 2 strokers but this one is different. If anyone has advice or wants to have a beer and assist I'll be happy to provide the beer! Worst case (piston and block damage) I'm going to buy a new powerhead from Yamaha. Holler if you have some advise..
