good vise - advice
« on: February 05, 2017, 10:50:22 AM »
What do you recommend for entry level fly tiers that want a more adjustable and rotating vise?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can see the Dyna King and Renzetti's at Cumberland Transit for hands on.

I am a Dyna King fan for sure. I tie on a Barracuda.

I don't keep up with new stuff anymore but I do like everything about my renzetti. I own two of them. I don't recommend getting the traveler for home use. It's a great travel vise but I prefer my presentation when I don't need a packable vise. Less adjustments to become loose. Others prefer dyna king and I'm sure they make a great product as well. If you're gonna stick with it go ahead and buy a good one. You'll save yourself some money in the long run.

I have been using the dyna King for several years and I like it a lot ... I also have a regal that I use  and I actually prefer it for tying midges .. Hit the local shops and put your hands on them and see what you like , I'm sure they will let you demo them
I just don't care!

Dyna or Renzetti. I have a Renzetti traveler i like a lot. The Presentation is sweet. Buy a good that twists and spins and all that stuff and will tie big and small and you wont have tobuy another one for qite some time. Just my 2 cents......

My Bad on the Traveler. I don’t have a Traveler, my other vise is a presentation 2000 that has all the adjustments. They do tend to loosen up over time and have to be tightened.

Renzetti & DynaKing if you want true rotary, the Regal rotates, not true rotary though. There's a DynaKing Cuda JR at Cumberland Transit, tell them you'll take it at 20% off & you'll hit your budget, drop my name if you need to.

I tie commercially - each year I tie thousands of flies using hooks of all sizes and wire gauge, and I must say that my Peak Rotary is by far the finest vise for the money - I've got three of them.  I use both the standard jaws and the saltwater jaws and the hooks will not slip, even when I'm tying with Veevus 200G (which you can practically hang your body weight from).  If you tie larger on primarily larger hooks, I recommend the saltwater jaws.

There are several accessories to add to the Peak system, which isn't the case with most other vises.

Peak also has a new vise - the Jurassic Series.  It won't accomodate shanks, but it's awesome for single hook flies and deer hair bugs.  I've got the small and the medium.

Let me know if you are interested in trying this vise

Don't let Looper fool you!  He ties on a bench vise with a pair of vise grips clamped in it.  Needless to say the guy can tie a fly!
