Title: Smallies
Post by: icthus on July 05, 2012, 07:46:20 PM
I went fishing with this guy named Steve Howard yesterday.  Fishing was fine,  the crowds were swell, and the people walking the trails were really friendly.  Met up with one guy who was taking pictures of flowers.  I was like, hey bud what are you doing?  He looked at me and said, Taking pictures of flowers.  Damn right, I said, Happy fourth.  Next thing you know I caught another fish.  The fishing was pretty much great the entire time besides the 2nd half of the 2nd hour, but the first half of the third hour made up for it and the next three halves were steller.  Anyways here is some Smallie Porn.  If its not your style sorry, snook porn will come soon enough.  Well, I am getting a headache from the light, so I am going back to the cave.

Pal,

On a serious note, to all the troops who have done what they have done, thank you.  Happy Fourth or Fifth.

Pal, it was great to fish with you on the 4th and enjoy a great day on the water. The Smallie bite was great and the crowds slim. Can't wait to get out again.

That looks like a lot more fun than replacing boat trailer bunkers & rewiring a utility trailer :-[

Looks like some sweet action.  I was in charge of a huge fundraiser bbq in our neighborhood and sweated my ass off all day serving hot meat.

Arghhh - killin' me!  I've been doing some 6am to 9am carp fishing these past several days due to my work schedule.  I have 2 lousy drum to show for it, along with a nice 8.8 lb grass carp I caught today - but I have 7 hours of fishing invested in that one fish!  Carpin' has been slooooow for me so far....

Toddro,

I've been studying up on them carps. I bet they would hit a green/brown sowbug if you could get one in the lane and across their nose.

I've taken up biking. Averaging only 10 miles right now but only because my girls can't keep up. I had no idea there were any fish left in TN.

Wish I could go, that's killing me not to but I have my busiest week of work so far this Summer with vendor selections and RFP reviews. Ugh!!  :'(

Both. Mostly on the greenway right now but we rode the Long hunter track this morning. Pretty fun but that trail is rough and rocky as hell. I'm not a huge fan of the rocky trails but it was pretty fun.

These fish didn't make it. This is gateway island on the Mboro Greenway.

I've had flies literally laying on their top lip and could't get a take.  I spent 7 hours in one particular area casting to these grass carp, and have one fish to show for it.  Absolutely brutal.  I'm done with them, and I'm going looking for commons...

Geez, it's gotta be bad to kill Goldie. You know that when O2 is low they actually convert the lactic acid produced from anaerobic glycolysis to ethanol, which then diffuses across the gill membranes into the surrounding water?! Kind of a neat mechanism... It allows them a few hours (or more, depending on water temp) survival in water with zero dissolved oxygen.

Remember last year this same fish kill made the local news.  I'm sure the drought has had some impact but those fish are in a shallow man made pond without any additional airation or support.  This won't be the last fish kill unless changes are made.
