Blanks for winter rod building projects
« on: October 07, 2012, 05:34:35 PM »
If any of y'all are thinking about building any rods this winter, you should check out the new Pac Bay Quickline blanks.  They are light, have crisp action, and are very cheap (between $60 and $80).  I built out the 9' 6 wt this spring, and have fished it almost exclusively this summer.  I fished it with a Rio Grand 6 wf on low water, and a Smallmouth 7 wf in normal conditions... it liked both. I know the line up in 9' rods goes up to a 10 wt, and I am going to build one of those this winter.

No financial interest, just wanted to pass on the good word.

Good to know. I may start building some rods again soon. I really like a rod 7WT and up with ceramic or alconite guides and you just can't buy then that way.

I fish a TFO TiCrX 6 wt that I really like.  I hate to admit it but Jesse let me fish his Quickline 6 on a recent Smallie float and I did not want to give it back.  It is a serious stick for a great price.  I would love to build one too.

Mike, who makes the ceramics you use?  I've never built out a fly rod like that, but I would like to try it out.

I've used two. Fuji Alconite (spelling) and Pac Bay Tichr. The Pac Bay come in several cool colors which really make a custom rod stand out. If you throw integrated lines IMO there is no comparison to a snake guide. Hands down the upgraded guides are easier to strip and cast.

Love the Pic above BTW.
