Title: Low streams
Post by: David L. Darnell on July 04, 2007, 10:05:01 PM
late this afternoon I went to the stream of my beginnings, dern shame how low she is, where it should have been mid thigh to belt buckle deep, the deepest water I could find barely covered my knee and that was in a small impression. For the most part was ankle deep and void of fish and fish smell. Waded 3/8 of a mile and finally moved a 6" Largemouth. Only saw one small bluegill bed.

I'm 49 and all the old timers always talked how the water table was down from their younger days, they are all gone on to their reward, in a way would hate for them to see the water table. I know we are always behind on rain but man is using more all the time.

1985, I started fishing the Smokies and when I thought it was "high" the old timers talked about how low it was. I hear that it's very low this season, haven't made it up this year, I find since I moved down to the bank of the Elk I don't stray like I use to, plus road trips are harder on me than they use to be. Use to drive up and fish hard and drive back in the same day, them days are over.
