Title: Bought a Gheenoe!
Post by: trealtree on October 14, 2007, 09:28:31 PM
I just bought a 15' gheenoe with a ez load trailor and trolling motor. IM pretty excited Ive always wanted one. Now I just need to save my pennies to get an outboard for it and a trolling motor mount. The boat says its rated for a 10hp .  Any reccomendations?

Very cool!!

I gotta say, I was very happy with the little Honda 15 I had. That's the only small motor I have ever owned. Purred like a kitten, ran like a bobcat. Er, something like that. It was too small to be a lion.  ;D

What was your boat rated for Rons?  Was it rated for a 15? Do you have any clue how much your motor weighed?

thanks

I don't remember what it was rated for. For some reason, I'm thinking the tag said 20 hp on that RiverHawk.

Here's the specs on the engine.

Good luck!!!

During the summer I was on the river with my friend Chad and there was a guy and his son in a gheenoe with a 1.5 or 2 hp motor.  We got into some faster skinny water and I could not pass them so I was stuck behind and they had that thing wide open and my 15hp was on idle and I was moving faster than they were.  Chad, said to me is that a bumblebee I hear, I said no it is that guys motor.  I they did not even have any Gen. on at all. I love my 15hp.
A 10hp should be fine.

Ron, I am not sure I ever told you this or anyone but Chad that I left the drain plug out once during the summer.  I put the boat in and left Chad with it while I parked the truck.  When I came back I said “why are my cookies floating? OH! Shit the drain plug”.  The boat was in the water for close to 8 mins. and Chad didn’t even notice anything was wrong.  I haven’t forgotten since.

Im leaning toward a nissan 9.8 hp 4 stroke short shaft. The specs say 6 shallow water setting's? I think I know what this means , but Im not sure. Maybe 6 tilt settings?

School is great, except for those dang classes. :D
I just wish I could get to go fishing. After this next week I will have more time for fishing.

 :D ;D :D ;D :o

Everybody gets to leave the plug out eventually!! Did you rescue the cookies?  :o

Tree-I think you are right. Probably a pin on the motor mount that lets you tilt it up with 6 different notches. I would think you would be OK with a 9.8 but I wouldn't want one any smaller.  hidden hatch now has the boat I had. It is a sweet little rig for the river and sheltered lake areas.
