Have it at the house?

What were you tying on before?

Those old HMH vises are hard to beat, i'm kinda partial to my Barraccuda though, looks like they trimmed the jaw size down a little, or is that a midge jaw?

Grumpy, I love my Barracuda as well. I have both sets of jaws and it has been flawless.

Steve I have two rotary's one Griffin Odyssey and a Renzetti knock off. .

I really considered a Barracuda and a Renzetti presentation 2000 or 4000. The Renzetti was on backorder and the HMH just looked so damn sexy in a traditional kind of way (it’ll make some pretty pictures). And hey, it was much cheaper too. The Tool steel, Stainless steel, and Brass, used to craft the HMH in a Renzetti vise would run over $400.

Those are the standard jaws but I’m going to order the Midge jaws if I think I need to after some time with it.

Nice collection Mike. I don't think you can go wrong with the HMH. I have heard nothing but great reviews about it.

You know it will make GREAT pictures. Does the head tilt?

The head does tilt, we had a couple in the store, i'd always grab one when someone wanted a demo on tying, it's just a plain, simple vise that adjust easily, holds a hook & like Mike says, cost nowhere near our Cudas :o
I still use my old Thompson model A for tying streamers when i don't need the rotary, tied on a Traveler for years, bought the Cuda & decided i'd never need another vise unless they come out with one that you can feed materials to & program it to tie the flies ;)

Thanks for the answer Grumpy.

I am still waiting for that vice too.  ;)

Well I got the HMH and after careful consideration I returned it. I'm just too used to rotary vises and the jaws on the HMH didn't hold the larger hooks very good.

I'm now the proud owner of a Renzetti Presentation 4000.

Monroe (spelling) at Fly South was very knowledgeable about everything vise related and he’s been tying much longer then I have so I trust his advice. After spending an hour or two with the vise last night I’m confident he steered me right.

I have a Griffin Odyssey for sale if anyone is interested.

It looks like this one but mine has Brass fittings. It does a very good job as an all around vise and I tied on it for three or four years. I’d let it go for $40.  I also have a Renzetti knock off but I think Itchus has dibs on it already.

That Renzetti is darn fine vice. Nice addition to the stable.

I must say that I like the Renzetti. However; if I had it to do over, I would do it different. I love the cam lock on the jaws.

That's a fair price on the Griffin though. It would be a good choice for somebody interested in starting out at our first anual Tiars and Liars metting :o

I tie on one a 2000 or 3000 ??? Mine has the screw knob from the side, does me fine, but those cam locks just look snazzy. Would buy it again. At times I'd like to have a pedestal to go along with the c-clamp I have.
