Title: 12 wt Rods
Post by: icthus on April 01, 2008, 06:33:56 PM
Made it to CT the other day to try out he TICRX 12 wt and for the first time I was disappointed with the TFO ROD.  Maybe it was me, and my casting style, but the rod felt like a telephone pole in my hand.  I could bang out line and could pick up line without any probleme but from 60' and in I hard a hard time putting it in a 6 foot space.  I shortened the line up and started casting at 20' to a four foot space and had a time with that.  I know that I am not the most prolific line hauler, but I do ok with most rods, but for some reason this rod did not do it for me.   Any recs on big mide price 12wt??????/

Thanks

Icthus

Craig , I cast a 9 wt. in the Diamondback Flawless series and I was impressed. I dont know about the 12 wt, but I really liked the 9.   Retail 299.00

Over line the TFO or just buy an Xi2.

I agree.  I was having trouble getting my "6wt" Axiom TFO to cast 7wt GPX floating line.  I was getting very frustrated, because it was casting the 250 Grain sooo good.  Once I bumped the line up to 8wt, I was casting great.  I recommend bumping up the line until you find the right one.
I think they only make the Axiom in 6, 8, and 10 wt.  But it might be worth a shot looking at the 10wt.

I took the rod out today in the wind, i kind of liked it ;) it's not something you're going to blind cast all day, it'll punch when needed though & pick a whole line up :o

I casted the echo the other day and just was not feelin it.  I also casted the low end sage and it felt great, the only concern is the how it would handle in the wind.  Almost to slow, hmmmm.  I guess its a good problem to have :).  More reasons to visit fly shops.
