Title: Calfkiller Report
Post by: dbradyh on August 07, 2008, 10:31:26 PM
River warm, clear, and low. Started wet wading in the morning with no luck on top and finally found largemouth and red eye with hellgramite nymphs. Wet waded down stream slowly with the foam line for a couple of miles and started picking up a few small mouth around springs on top with fire tiger wiggle minnows and black and yellow popping bugs. Typical plateau river fishing for late summer; fish were few and far between with the river to myself for about 7 hours.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like a nice day out fishing with some solitude.

Too bad the Caney only has that solitude between the hours of 8p and daylight on Christmas Eve.

I thought the Calfkiller was a cool water fishery that held trout?   ???

The trout are further up river from where I was fishing.

That is awesome. How far between the bass fishing and the trout would you guess. How much further past the Center Hill Dam exit is the CalfKiller?

I have heard it is a good river to fish but never made the trip. If it is not too far past it I might have to venture up one day. The only two places I ever trout fish is the Obey and Caney.

The Calfkiller trout section is closer to Cookeville along HWY 84..... I have never fished there and from scouting trips I saw a lot of posted land along the river. The Calfkiller seems to fish best from May-early July.
