Title: Plateau Spring Creeks
Post by: dbradyh on March 18, 2009, 06:19:44 PM
Spent a few hours today fishing some of the upper reaches of a local creek and just picked up one small trout.
Water is very cold ,clear, and dropping quickly. TWRA has cut the stocking in half so these creeks will probably not fish as in the past which was never good for lots of numbers. Great scenery and hope things warm up like the lower elevations soon.

Why have they cut back on the stocking,,so they can dump more in the water fountains downtown as part of the Urban stocking program? I noticed Charles Creek isn't on the list anymore either?? It's a shame because those creeks are gems and have been known to hold some really nice fish like this one.

Places like this provide a unique experience to Trout fish in this region and we sure don't want to loose them!!!

Too many jerks cutting off access on the better streams.  They expect TWRA to stock the creeks purely for their own private benefit.

I absolutely love the stocked spring creeks, and it's some of my favorite fishing of the year when it's good.  But when I drive an hour and a half to the Plateau and see No Trespassing signs at every single access, I'd rather see them discontinue it entirely and just put those fish in the tailwaters.

TWRA needs to work out a more consistent deal on access.

I really wish we had a stream access law like Michigan with the high water mark. They have some great fisheries due to this and fly only water. I know the fly only water is never going to happen but a man can dream

I just checked the list.  Charles Creek is still there - it's on page 2.

Maybe a spring creek trip is called for this weekend if the rain doesn't blow it out too much?  I have a 8'6" 4 wt that wants to see some action.

I'd love to but I'm booked both days weather and generation permitting...
