Title: Harpeth River

What is the story on fishing the Harpeth species, etc.? I never really hear much about it and from what I have seen it looks fishy in places. Since it is so close to Nashville I am wondering if it is a worthwhile destination when the canoe rental fleets are not busy.

Awesome Smallmouth, Redeye, Bluegill, Sunfish and other warmwater species river. Lots of options and lots of water.

I second what Steve said.  Maybe one of the most under fished rivers around here.  SHHHHH don't spread it.  I caught one of the largest (a good 3lbs) smallmouth with the darkest greens and browns I have seen anywhere.  I caught that one on the little Harpeth that was no more than 20ft wide and about waist deep.

The little Harpeth is a hoot. There are sections you can jump across and have some nice size Smallies.

And yes, SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! :-X

I've netted 8 or 9 different species of fish in the Harpeth.  There are many areas that are relatively devoid of fish, and then there are some particular areas that are frikkin' loaded.  And then there are certain times of the year when I think you could catch a fish on a bare hook if hit the water in the right way.  There are some amazing hatches on the river too certain times of the year in the late afternoons.
