Title: Tech ??
Post by: MikeA on January 27, 2010, 11:06:49 AM
Alright all my images are stored on a 500G external HD formatted in NTFS. Mac and NTFS don't get along so I’m limited to what I can do with the images on that HD. What I'm thinking about doing for a long term solution is setting up a NAS on our Network and using that to work between PC and MAC. My question is how do I protect the NAS or does it even need protecting. It will be accessed by PC from time to time.

You could just transfer the images off the external HD and format the hard drive to FAT32 file system and both PC and MAC will play well with FAT32.

Yea that was a thought too. It's about 325 G of data so I could just buy another TB HD and transfer it. Then I could reformat the 500 to FAT32  and use it to mirror the TB dirve or vice versa...

Macs don't have a problem reading NTFS, just writing to it.

If you want to leave it NTFS, there is a utility that will allow you to do it.

Here is one my friend sent me that he uses.

Steve iPhoto won't or can't put them in the library from a NTFS drive and even if it did you couldn't edit them. I may try one of those programs tonight. Thanks!

Got any ideas for a web dev program for Mac that can be had,, easily....

I thought CS4 included one? Did you get a copy yet? If not, let me ask around from some "sources".

iWeb is decent and you can edit direct CSS and HTML if you want.

If you want to hand write code, I would just use something like BBEdit, it is a classic and a workhorse. If you want a visual editor, the Adobe ones are the best out there.

I don't want to hand write the code so I'll look into iWeb. I may have a copy os CS4 already.

I have an external here at work. I will just copy it to that and give it to you and you can return it when you have it copied. No rush.
