Its been a long time since we've had a fly swap around here. Any of you guys up to get one going?
I've finally dusted off my tying gear after a couple of months off. We're seeing glimpses of springtime out here after a pretty rough first half of winter (saw -48 one morning).
Time to fill those boxes. How does a streamer swap sound to yall? I can host unless one of you tennessee guys want to.
-
Streamer swap sounds great. I have been tying for my salt trip and spring fishing so that would be great.
You are more than welcome to host!
-
I'd be game.
Sounds good!
-
I'm in! ;D
-
bump, for more participation. Come on guys, we need at least six people on this one. If we only get 6-8 people, maybe we can do two patterns each to make it worthwhile and fill those streamer boxes a little more.
-
I'll be a good sport and join.
-
I've never participated in a fly swap. How's it work?
-
Tie up required number of your chosen streamer pattern. Send them to swap master. Swap master will divide all flies from other tyers and mail them back. You get to sample a variety of others work. I like the swaps when you get orginals and not Willy Buggers.
-
Bump x2
-
I'll give it a try
-
I'm in!! ;D
-
So it looks like we have seven participants. Why don't we do two patterns each with seven of each pattern. That will give us a nice sampling of streamers and leave us with 14 different flies each. Lets set the due date for the swap at April first. I'll post up my mailing address once someone has theirs done.
Should we impose a no bugger rule?
-
Yes, I don't fish them. What about size parameters?

Big and gaudy.
-
How big are we talkin? Trout big or striper big?
-
I'm thinking I may do a #6 on 7xl long hook and articulated for the second one for 8 weight and bigger, preferably out of a boat.
-
I am going 1/0 or bigger.
-
Adam,
Looks like we've got 7 participants, so I'm guessing you want us to send you 6 of each pattern.
Well here's what I had in mind. If you're looking for something different, just let me know and I'll go back to the tying bench.
Here's the whole mess...

This is a new pattern I just picked up at a recent FFF show. Haven't fished it but the guy said he'd had good luck with it...

This is my version of Knudson's Spider. I've caught steelhead and smallies on a size 6, but this is a size 8 which I think works better for trout.

As you can see, I'm no professional, but hope these help you land some nice fish.
Just PM me your address and I'll get them off to you next week.

Hey guys, I've already gotten a couple of address request so i'll just post it here. My address to mail the flies to is:
Adam Long
PO box 687
Winter Park, CO 80482
Be sure you include a self addressed STAMPED (not metered) envelope, and a vacuum packed slice of country ham (optional). You just can't get country ham out here, mmmm.....salty.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the flies. I guess its time to start mine as well. I've been cranking out tons of size 22-26 midges. It will be nice to break out the bigger hooks and thread and tie some meaty flies.
-
Adam,
Put mine in the mail today.
Fred
-
Finally decided on a pattern today after kicking around some ideas today. Will start working on my flies tomorrow and get them wrapped up pretty soon.
What is our deadline? And how many total? 7?
-
2 flies, 7 of each pattern, 14 flies total
-
Thanks David! I will get busy. ;D
-
I've got 3 tied and working on the 4th one, this fly in times past has been good to me, back in the 90's I was into the classic streamers, now into the gaudy big junk, need to return to my roots more often. #6 Daiichi 7X long hook, Little Rainbow Trout
Maybe I will be in the tying mood tonight and get this pattern finished.

"Daddy, how does this look?"

are we going to swap materials list also ?
-
David, I am on fly number 4 of the 1st set as well. Yes, I believe we should share materials.
-
I have first set done, and two of second set, i got a late start.

All good here. I couldn't tie last night as I had some after hours support work on our SAP system. Tonight I will be back to my regularly scheduled programming.
-
Shipped my 14 big and gaudy Frankenstein's to Adam this morning. Hope you guys like them, if not, take it easy on the newbie...I'm learning as I go.
-
DONE!!! I will get em in the mail tomorrow.
-
Has anyone sent the ham yet?
-
was just wondering that, hearing about flies being posted but no good Tennessee grub
-
Flies are in the mail!! Still working on the ham. ;D
-
I might have some country ham at home from Loveless, will have to check.
1st batch of flies done, will get the rest knocked outi n the next couple of days.
-
I've gotten a couple of packages this week. There are some nice looking flies in there. No ham yet, but if someone comes through with a slice, i'll be sending back something tasty from colorado in rerturn.
-
you can count on a fellow Lincoln Countian to come through with some good grub, hate to leave a man in the wilds of the west without something to eat, having to put up with great scenery and big fish all the time.
-
Adam, did you get the flies i sent? was postage sufficient? if not let me know.
-
Flies went in the mail today.
-
mine will go out tomorrow, please overlook my hair work, been awhile and I've gotten rusty.
-
haven't forgotten you on the Tennessee salty meat, just haven't found any worth sending to Colorado yet. But I'm looking.
-
keep an eye on your PO box for something other than flies ;)
-
NICE! Its been a long minute since I had a country ham and biscuit. I can't wait
I have most of the packages in hand now. I think i'm waiting on one more before i sort and send. I'm going fishing over the next few days so i'll probably drop the flies in the mail sometime over the weekend.
-
I've been on the water a ton the last couple of weeks. Haven't checked my po box in a few days but i assume the rest of the flies are there. Flies will be going out tomorrow or friday. I'm looking forward to seeing some pics of fish with these flies in their jaws. All of these are getting into the rotation for me. I'm gonna test them on some hog water next week
-
Adam, my bad, I just realized that I did not send you postage. I will drop some money in the mail for you.
-
Mine were mailed out last Saturday (with return postage). ;D
I didn't include a recipe or materials list. I figured, in the next few weeks, i'd get around to posting some pics and a recipe for the flies i included in the swap.
-
The packages have been divided and they are going out tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to testing a few of these out soon.
-
Got mine in the mail today. Nice work fellas.
Who tied what?
-
I received mine today too. I tied the Nutcracker (the one with white rabbit tail, red flashabou, marabou collar and deer-hair head) and my spin-off of the Sex Dungeon. There are some very nice flies in the package.
Sam, did you tie the Wiggle Minnow?
-
Got mine today too!! WOW!! can't wait to go fishing!!!! not sure the names of all the flies but they sure look fishy!!! Great job guys!! I look forward to doing this again!! OH yeah, i tied the white one with the red chenile neck, think i will call it a bleeding gil minnow. the other was the bait fish pattern with the fish skullz head, and green and black maribou and grey synthetic hair. I may have to call him the Caney Fork Minnow, caught my first Caney fork trout on one at the gathering!! Yep The CFM, i like it!!
-
I tied up the wool muddler and the olive meat whistle variation. Looking forward to trying these flies when i float jurassic this week
-
Adam, Sorry man, i guess i underestimated on the size of the envelope and postage, i will send you some cash. Thanks for hosting, this was cool!!
-
NO worries on the extra postage guys. The streamers were just too big and nice for me to stuff them in a letter envelope.
-
Did you ever get the ham?
-
To late already sent it ;D.
-
Did you ever get the ham?
I got the ham, my favorite kind too, bigham country ham. I am gonna send you back some killer buffalo jerky as soon as i make it out to the butcher shop.
-
Told my 9 year jerkyholic that you were sending jerky. Sam said we should send him ham more often.
Flies look great. Must be more boat bank bangers than I thought. I plan on trying them on the Elk Monday. Running 2050 cds spill for 2+ weeks.
-
Sam, did you tie the Wiggle Minnow?
No, I tied the silver cone head, barred rabbit strip streamer and the white and gray articulated streamer, kinda like a Kelly G. fly
These flies look sick. I can't wait to try them.
Sam
-
Buffalo Jerky!!!!! Man, I knew i should have gotten off my arse and gotten you some country ham!!!
-
Sam, did you tie the Wiggle Minnow?
That would be me.
And I also tied the orange and black rabbit fly with the acrylic head. Left intentionally long so you can trim it for you own fishing conditions.
-
That's a great tie on the Wiggle Minnow. I've tried a few and haven't been able to get the head cut at an angle that I'm happy with. What are you usually targeting with the big black & orange fly?
-
With the black and orange, I cut the tail and go after smallies or largemouth.
Thanks on the Wiggle, it is a good pattern for sure.
-
Which was the wiggle minnow? :-[
-
I'm gonna keep the orange and black one long and see if i can't feed it to a pike
-

That was what that fly was designed for. Found the recipe on YouTube!

-
Just got back into town and made the trip to the mail box at noon.
Wow. You guys did a great job. ;D
I'm especially interested to see how the double jointed, olive deer hair headed one and the big yellow bunny & rubber one works.
Looks as though I owe you guys some more flies. The two I tied look like bait for the ones y'all tied!
Adam, thanks for putting this together.
Fred

Cool! Thx for the pic, David. You guys did an awesome job, those all look amazing. And there was country ham and buffalo jerky involved? I may have to get in on the next one! :o :o :o
