Ya, good luck guys!
Had a customer stop by Bass Pro, he was from Colorado and this was going to be his first time fishing the area and will be fly fishing from a low profile Hyde with a new 5HP mercury on the back.
No idea what he was getting himself into :o

Home Boys make us proud! ;) Good fishing Guys! ;D
-
Was on my way to Chattanooga from Nashville and took the kids to Great Falls for a hike. I saw alot of boat around. The water look great I hope the big low didnt put them deep. Hometown Boys throw it down!!! ;D
-
OK fellas, how did you do? Any TFTN boys wearing a World Campion musky medal?
-
The winner was a canuk in a kayak 38in fish I was told by Todd last night.
-
2 fish were caught total. Jarrod caught one of them.
-
One other thing. I think in the future it would be a good idea to ban all spinning gear from the tournament with no exceptions. I thought that was the case for this one but evidently I was wrong. When the winner of a fly fishing Musky tourny is in a group of people in kayaks who were gear fishing, it calls into to question the integrity of the tournament.

I've got no problem with fishing hardware for Muskies but that sounds pretty bunk for a Fly Fishing tournament.

What??? That is bogus! I agree!!! :-[ :-[ :-[

I have a lot of experience in tournament administration. You have to have a strict rule book. Even if its a charity event you MUST have strict guidelines or people will not return, no matter how well it is promoted. From what I read and researched the event was well planned and managed. But lax enforcement or inadequate foresight into rules and regulations will mar any tournament. I am sure this is not the only board where someone will complain about the rules and these boards are where our sport is promoted.
Its public water so you can't ban gear guys. BUT you can disqualify anyone who is fishing with gear or has gear on their boat or partner boats.
They should have probably done a 2 day event. 1 day fly only and a second OPEN division where any gear goes. Would allow for more anglers, higher interest and less of a gray area. 2 day event also gives flexibility in schedule. When you schedule a 1 day event there is no wiggle room for weather issues. When anglers are traveling from Canada, Colorado and Wisconsin you need 2 days. 1 day for pre-fishing and 2 for the event.
The event wasnt meant to be a super competitive big money event. It was to benefit the fishery (all gear) and promote the sport (Musky Fly Fishing) and the sponsors. But its called the Musky Fly Fishing World Championship and if managed and grown properly it could turn into something pretty special that would benefit the fishery, local guides and community.

the tournament was set up as a fundraiser for the fish and the fishery , and first place was awarded a trophy while the real winners were the lucky one who won great door prizes, I mean guys if you were not there they had some amazing prizes that were donated by sponsors of the deal (hats off to all of them) if your number was pulled you left smiling.... as far as winning or losing there was nothing to gain monetarily and I don't think anybody was looking to pound the chest, it was a gentleman's tournament and we all have our integrity to live with. Hats off to Towee Boats and the city of mcMinneville and all the sponsors involved, it was a success as far as i am concerned.....

Exactly.
That there was no pay out has nothing to do with everyone in the tournament following the rules.
1. No launching from private launches.......
2 No conventional tackle or live bait allowed in your boat or your group of boats.
I'm not calling anyone dishonest but I don't accept that having a "Guide" and another guy in the group who we also observed using conventional gear fishing the same water at the same time is acceptable and following the rules. If it's just a good ole boy gathering then call it that. If it's a FLY FISHING ONLY tournament with rules then the rules apply to everyone. If I came in with a 50"er and had two conventional rods in my boat and said jarrod used them but I caught the fish on a fly, would I have been disqualified?? It seems there is a grey area concerning kayaks and what constitutes using conventional gear. My post was meant to help avoid this confusion in the future.
All that said, Todd did an outstanding job making this happen. It was a good time, we met some great folks, and drank some great beer. Congrats to everyone involved it was a hoot!

What in the heck is that?
-
Like I've been saying all this time, 2 or more is dangerous. This isn't the first and it won't be the last.
-
It's unbelievable how quickly a boat gets swamped if it gets crossways with an obstacle under generation. I have seen it happen.

That's someones 17' aluminum boat from sunday.

I heard yesterday that TWRA got the CORPS big barge boat & pulled the sunken one back to Betty's & a local farmer on a tractor flipped it & helped pull it back on the trailer.
They went back up early the next morning & recovered about everything except one rod/reel, of course, coming out alive was a good thing.

Couldn't agree any more.
Glad they got out alive.

Congrats to all who competed. A muskie is one fish I would like to put under my belt 1st gear then I would like to try it OTF.
Here is a blog post from the winner of the Tournament. He is on the Jackson Kayak Fishing Team, and looks like a long time angler of Pike and Muskie.
