River Hoppin' on the Hog
« on: September 09, 2013, 10:44:22 PM »
Labor Day , and this past weekend, I've been able to get out and share the water with my brother, then my father, and solo.  The Hog Skiff did awesome, and got me to waterson 3 rivers I've been daydreaming about visiting for years.  I ran up and down some seriously bony rapids...got a few dings in the jet foot, but had an absolute blast getting them.
The summer bite is over and the fall bite hasn't quite kicked in.  Despite the slower fishing, we were immersed in perfect weather and gorgeous setting, and still did have some fishy encounters.  Jay missed and absolute monster smallie, and I was able to land a muskie to share an awesome memory fishing with my father.
Once the frosts start kicking in, and the lethargic muskies become unglued from the bottom, I will return to pay them another visit.  I'll try to focus more on the smallies now that they're getting fired up.  Got a good tip on some new water that sounds unreal.

Here's a short video of the jet riding back to the ramp.

Nice! I miss that river something fierce, need to make the drive soon. The big rock in pic 8 had a nice little flathead under it the last time I was there -- a couple students and I chased it around for a bit and had a grand old time.

Octoberfest in a can?

Glad the boats working out. You might want to look into the poly intake for your jet if you keep hitting it.

Good times right there Travis.

Haven't seen Octoberfest in a can. Kind of like drinking Ranger IPA in a can (which is available).

I had a hard time believing that a quality Ale would be in a can, but some of the best Tom returned from Oregon to share was in a can, "cheaper" to can over bottle.

That's a beautiful area.  I bet it is out of this world when the colors start to change.

Nice Travis. I watched the other "Hog Video". You wouldn't let Knox sit on the Yeti? lol

If ever I had the balls to go noodling...it would be in that place.  I stumbled upon that spot by reading catfish forums---those guys can reveal some good info about musky hangouts.

Mike, I was strongly considering a poly jet foot before I got the boat, but the smaller jet foots weren't available as were the larger motors like in the Rockproof boats.  I know that market is growing for the smaller motors though.  If  I really bang mine up, a UHMW plastic foot will be my next purchase.  Really, so far, all my hard knocks came when I was careless and barely throttling without trying to plane out---the boat has really run some skinny water when I balance out the weight with the passenger riding up front.  If I angle the boat, and hit a big spill from the side, the boat ramps right up it without a lot of bow rise.  It's kind of crazy zig zagging up a Class I-II drop.  It would suck to clog the jet in the middle of the funnels, thus the oars.

Kyle,  only the special VIP anglers get to sit on the Yeti.  The rest (including you) sit on the floor!
Just put a large truck box for the rower's bench, and moved the Yeti up front.  It really balances out the boat well, and gives my fishing buddies a good front row seat---hopefully not a projectile diving platform.
