I have had good luck fishing hoppers in late summer on the Rio Grande above Creede and catching huge fish up there.  There are some streams in Washington St. that are good hopper rivers even on "normal" years, so I can't imagine what a record hopper population would do!

Do the trout on the Dow Jones Ranch stop eating pellets long enough to bother chasing a hopper?

I think DOW made them stop with the pellets haven't seen any the last two years and i'm down there a lot. Those fish will eat a hopper for sure. The river is surrounded by so much ranch land with no livestock that the hoppers really thrive in there. What they love the most is a big sculpzilla coming off the banks
