Bass fishing has replaced Trout Fishing.
« on: July 15, 2019, 03:58:51 PM »
For now. The crowded rivers, low Trout numbers, and shitty river conditions, have sent me in search of something to do during the dog days. So a few months ago I got back into a friends Bass boat and got bit by the bug, again. Now, It's on my mind day and night. The last few weeks we've fished a lake that's ranked very high for it's Bass fishing. This is the fourth trip I've made there and it's nothing short of phenomenal. Two weeks ago we got 40 to the boat with several in the 5 to 6 pound range. Yesterday we got 50 to the boat in the 2 to 4 pound range, probably lost as many.  They were in the jumps yesterday and we were waxing them with swim baits. Alot of the fish (when they aren't in the jumps) are offshore hugging the bottom in 30' of water so flies are out. But Who cares! I'm having a blast and I hope some of you aren't throwing in the towel just because the caney is the new Opryland.

between the crowds for mostly dinks and having a jet boat, I have turned my attention to Carp, love those creatures, plus I get my trout fix done when I hit natural waters in the west, trout fix coming up soon :)

Dude, there's nothing wrong with a green fish!  You can still tie some crazy stuff up and hop around in 30' on braid and mono on a longer spinning rod.  I tied up some crazy purple and pink bunny junk for some "kids" two years ago and they killed it amongst their peers using swim baits and all the trendy stuff in a fruit jar tournament.   Show them something they've never seen at depth.  I've never Shakira shaking it in my living room... but I Guaranmoaf'ntee you I'd try to bite it.

You still got your Aquasox?  Surfstyle top and Oakley's?  Requisite for good luck when getting back on the stick for green fishes.

Years ago I started making "swim baits" for clients who tell me that they can handle a 9wt and up to 400 grain heads with no problem. But then can't manage to get the head out of the rod tip, let alone 60+ feet from the boat.... Here, try this spinning rod with a heavy "fly" that I made just for you.  Oh, wow that's much better is the usual response. Nobody likes to admit defeat, and they hate even more to pay for it. This is usually a win win.
