Plateau report - 07/30
« on: July 31, 2011, 02:09:35 PM »
What a day!
Met up with Brady to float on the Plateau...

Started out a little slow, then picked up.  Caught a ton of red eye and some smallies.
Watched this guy catch one after another with a popper.

Round about 11:00, a storm rolled through and we sat it out on the shore.  It cooled
off a bit and we got out ahead of a mud line and the good fishing resumed.

The hilight of my day was an 8 or 9 inch smallie that hit my gurgler.  It jumped right away
and fought like they usually do.  Then, up close to the 'toon,  it makes a really hard run.
I thought, "hmmm, he's got a lot of energy for the end of this fight".  All of a sudden the
reason for his burst of speed shows up - a MUSKIE!  That muskie slammed the smallie and
took off running.  I've played this game before and it rarely turns out good, but had to try to land him.
Fought him while getting the slack line on the reel.  Brady was shouting words of encouragement.
Got him within 15 feet of the boat a couple of times, then the inevitable happened - PING!
The sound of 8lb floro biting the dust... :(

This 30 - 35 inch predator added a shot of adrenaline to the day.  :)
Brought back memories of perch fishing in Canada.  There, once you had the perch hooked,
the goal was to get it in the boat as fast as you could...before the pike would come and shred
your catch.

Brady, thanks for a great day on the water!  Hope we get to do it again soon.

A nice day out indeed! Lots of fun fishing the skinny water and trying a toon out for the first time. First float trip for me in awhile and the highlight of the trip was trying to  figuring out what was taking Jim so long to land that little small mouth......  If anyone ever gets to go fishing with Jim and he offers to make lunch, be sure to take him up on the offer! THANKS!

Sounds like a great trip!  Brady, what in the heck do you have in your cooler that is strapped on the back of the toon?  It appears to be heavy!   ;)

I am guessing 12 oz beverages, but I think it is anchor/drag chain that is tilting him, not the beverages.
