Weekend in the Park.

I spent the weekend with the girls exploring the park. The colors were at peak.

There is not much collective security in a flock of sheep on the way to the butcher.

The park is crowded but if you play your cards right you can avoid the biggest crowds. If you want to get completely away you just need to hike few miles uphill.

You guys timed it right.  The leaves look stunning.  Perfect time for the hike, and good Gawd what a fat Bear!  I'd be nervous  to run up on him on foot.  There'll be ice up there soon.

Now I understand while I spent so much time in the mountains and took six years to get four years of education at Maryville (pronounced Murvul by the locals).

I've got to take the time and make that climb one day. I usually fish up a ways then get so tired I just want to go back down, not up more. Looks like the views may be worth it though.
"Often, I have been exhausted on trout streams, uncomfortable, wet, cold, briar scarred, sunburned, mosquito-bitten, but never, with a fly rod in my hand, have I been in a place that was less than beautiful."

One of our favorites hikes so far. Charlie's Bunion is another one that's just amazing. Going to do the first leg of Alum Cave trail next trip. Then getting prepared to do LaConte and back in a day. I'm finding that my legs and lungs are acclimating well to the steep trails. Granted, I don't rush to the top, but rather take my time and enjoy the place. After the hike Sat we drove into Gburg and had dinner at Cherokee Grill (thanks Kyle, you've ruined me now), and walked the strip. We were all still in good shape this time. Feels good to be back where I was when I was 20!!

If you're just fishing when you visit you're missing out on some very cool places. I love the backcountry and getting to see places along the creeks but don't let the crowds put you off on the trails. They are worth absolutely worth it if you're the kind of person who's inspired by natural beauty. I'm that kind of person.  ;D

..... Going to do the first leg of Alum Cave trail next trip. ...
If you are doing Chimney Top then walking around town, you won't have any issue with Alum.  Wife and I did up and back down last year just after all the leaves were down.  Other than rain on top of large sheets of ice, we had no issues. I was sore, but mostly due from sliding/slipping on the ice.  When we did get views (between the rain clouds), it was fantastic.
