Slow Day for Vets
« on: November 12, 2007, 08:20:02 PM »
The fish just didn't want to cooperate with this vet (nor any of the others) today.  Slowest day I've seen in a while on the Elk, I had to work from 11 to 3:30 to get my dozen fish, and I worked hard to boot.

The fish were feeding somewhat, but not on fly line flies.  Interestingly enough they would hit a fly fished solo, but fish that same fly tandem, and they would ignore it to death.  I always start my day with tandem flies, just to get a feel for the fish and what they're feeding on... well today they would hit at things, but they played hard to get until I just gave up and took off the dropper.

Another lesson learned.

From now on they just seem to get more picky each time out. This is when I usually just go after something else like Striper or Musky.

I almost went, but figured it would be busy.

Now is the time to get out the big ugly stuff. I had on something big today many miles below the dam, on a #8, bent double, shaking around as it tried to escape. Figured it to be a big Stripper.
