Biggest Trout on the Elk
« on: November 21, 2007, 09:36:28 AM »
OK,seriously - no fibbing -what's the biggest trout you personally have seen caught on the Elk?  Bait fish, fly, whatever.  I've seen large trout in the water (18"+) but caught?  Not so much..

16" right above the first bend. Otherwise, stockers.

I hear of 6 and 8 pound Browns almost every year.

20" Football Pig Rainbow just upstream from the paint ball on the right under the submerged tree trunk that sticks out from the bank. Can't get no closer than that ;) on a Classic Streamer, Sept 1996.

4 1/2 lb brown about 15 years ago. Since then a 20 inch football rainbow 2 years ago. I have not seen many large fish there in years.

Woodsman, you are really good with Photoshop. How did you get your face, on my body, with my fish?

I almost forgot there are no trout in the Elk and certainly not any big ones. It's all shiners in there....

snakes are real bad, plus the occasional Puma.

Was told today at work today about a coworker who is on weekdays, he caught a 19.5" just shy of 5 lb this past week on the Elk.

Back in the summer while on a float trip, I took an 18" RB using out of one of the watercrest bubble lines using a San Juan worm.  One the same day, took a 14" Brown who was much more of a fighter on one of Tim Page's Trout Candy.

I've caught a few in the 16-18" range, mostly bows. I was fishing at ferris one day and saw a guy catch a nice 3-4 pounder from above the bridge. It may have been a brood fish though a friend who worked at the hatchery told me they had released several there the week before.

Anytime someone asks about the elk i have to tell them about the trout candy. If you don't try one of those on the elk you ain't tryin
