Should be under boating
« on: December 05, 2007, 11:29:10 PM »
I know that this question should probably be under the boating section but I was hoping that Mike or Steve ( just because you two own one) but anyone else feel free to commit  - I saw under the striper pic page on the web site Mike, a lot of striper fishing being done out of your Supreme - What size water where you in ? Lake, large river - I know that you are not going to give away your secret guide client hang outs but how did the boat handle the lake or bigger water on the fish ( it looked great ) -

Bottom line is the Supreme is a river boat and a damn fine one a that! Put it in a lake and your gonna have a rough wet ride in chop. It's doable and I do it just not when weather is unfavorable, and that's when you really want to be on the lake...

Thanks guys for the help I am trying, just as all beloved boat owners that have come before me to buy that ONE perfect boat a boat the will draft shallow and trout fish, but also be able to handle smaller water where I can go after carp and stripers, and other bass - The supreme is the choice for comfort, re-sale, all the reasons -  I just hope that it can handle a little more water  than my favorite trout rivers

Just don't take on large waves and you should be fine.

I fish out of the Supreme a lot and I have a river hawk.  I would spend the extra money and go for a boat like the supreme.  The waves are a bit rough at times, but once you get to where you want to go it is a great boat with lots of room and very stable.  You might have to compromise comfort and speed in a little rough water for peace of mind you are not going to get swamped when jerks come throwing a four foot wake.  Futhermore, a G3 is also a good boat but can't go in as shallow of water like the Supreme can, if that boat gets stuck good luck.

My thoughts and opinion,
"You see the fish, make the cast. Tic, tic, hit him, no not a trout set!!!!!! What are you doing?"

Thank you very much, I have been back and forth between a River Hawk King Fish Etd & a Supreme 2000 Series.  The Supreme just keeps coming up a winner, but the River Hawk King Fish just looks ( I have never fished out of one ) like a great boat for taking on a little more than the average trout stream.  But I do appreciate your post and commits, like I said I am just trying to do what every man on this forum that owns a boat has done ( buy the perfect one ) and it aint goin to happen !!!

I've been sitting here for 2 yrs on this board waiting to find the perfect boat. Now what I have decided is that what is ideal for one may not be ideal for the other. I'm considering a straight up Caney boat. Everything else can wait. ;D

Thank you very much, I have been back and forth between a River Hawk King Fish Etd & a Supreme 2000 Series.

I had a 2000 series, while i believe it would run a lil shallower than Mikes 2060, the 2060 is 4 times stabler than the 2000, i'd fork over the extra $$ if i were to purchase another.
The Kingfish is the one with the rear deck right? If so, you'll need a jackplate if you're running a prop, if you tilt a prop up on shallow water drive, the tiller handle hit's the deck :o
As mike stated, the Supremes are better suited for the rivers & don't mix well with houseboats & 300 HP motors that run 80 MPH.

Realtyman, the perfect Caney boat already exsist, the problem with it is, the poor SOB having to sit in the middle & row it, while i have fished the Cane & other rivers in many styles of boats, you can't beat a drifter for comfort.

Grumpy: thank you for the insight and again apologies to the forum for not listing this in the section on this forum clearly marked boating.  I dont know much about jack plates but I am already a little worried,  I am trying to keep the vessel as light as possible and the extra weight is going to be a factor.  I guess it all has been said no matter how hard we all try, no matter what we read, the perfect boat for shallow water running ( ie - river boat ) and a boat to run the lakes and larger waters just does not exist ---- maybe Mike had it right on this from the get go with using a jon boat tricked out ?

Grumpy , Ill second that , you cant beat a drift boat for stability and comfort . I love them and I am in the market for one if you come across one .
I just don't care!

It's hard to beat a 15 or 16' 48" floor semi V Alum boat for an all around boat. I've been trying to convince people of that with the Lowe. I used it for Caney Trout Cumberland Striper, Priest Hybrids,  Dale Hollow Trout Trolling, Collins River Smallmouth, Williamsport lakes, Steam Plant, You NAME IT that boat could do it.
I think Thumper has an awesome boat in the G3, I think it’s a G3. Great boat with a jet, maybe he’ll chime in.

I needed a specialty boat that could run shallow and fish three folks comfortably.  IMO considering what the Supreme has opened up for me and how much enjoyment I get from quality time on the water,, it’s paid for itself already. Annnnddd it'll hold its value for a very long time.

No doubt in my mind that Drifters are awesome boats too. I won't try to beat it into everyone's head that motor boats are the most efficient boats and everyone should just submit and buy one.

Mike,

you are correct on Thumpers boat, I fished out of the front of it and we floated and motored over some mighty skinny water on the Caney. It's a G3 with a 30hp Yammie Jet.

You guys must be looking for a boat ride with all the praise for my G3. ::)  I really have enjoyed this boat.  Grumpy said it all one dy when he told dme that there is no one perfect boat for the kind of fishing we do. :o  I've been through a few boats myself.  Two diffrent Gheenoes and couple of Jon boats.  I am very pleased with my G3 and jet combo.
Two bits of advice. :o  First,  don't buy a boat before riding and fishing from it or one just like it!  Even if this means paying for a guide trip, it will be money well spent.  Second, keep your boat as light as you can.  Look at every spec closely.  Boat weight, length and width.  What is the hull is rated to carry as payload.  Motor size and weight.  These new 4 stokes are a little heavy compared to the 2 stoke motors.
Keep it light.  I hope this helps.  You can book rides in my G3 through Grumpy at CT  ;)
