Bilge pump question
« on: March 04, 2008, 03:22:54 PM »
I installed a bilge pump last Fall and it has worked well for the most part but I have a question for you experts out there.

When I pump the boat out as I get towards the bottom I notice that my pump is leaking around the hose. Is this common or do I need to get a better pump or hose. Currently I am using one of the Attwood pumps?

Would it be wise to caulk around the hose before installing in the pump?

Steve, it couldn't hurt nothing. It seems a little weird that it leaks when most of the water has been drawn out, there's not a split around the flange  ???

Grumpy, those Attwoods have a split in the flange on the outlet valve from the pump where the two pieces of plastic come together.

Some pump systems use the suction it draws to close up all the connections. Then, once the water gets too low for a strong suction it will leak some. I am not sure if you have one of the systems but I have seem them that do that.
