Hog Island Skiff

Hey fellars,  I just wanted to let you guys know that John St John has a skiff in the works.  I'm not sure how long it will be before they produce one but if any of you are in the market for that type boat, I would wait.  John said it will be 16ft, I forget the beam, sides will be 25", and will run a 40 jet.   Hog Island builds a go anywhere drifter now.  I'll be getting one of these when he gets it finished.

I'll post details here as I get them.

That should make a great river boat if they keep the bottom flat enough.

If it is anything like the one I rowed this week, put me on the list. The cross section of the material the drifter is made out of is almost unbelievable. Quiet too!

I Got the email from Hyde also, and I am interested in the idea. 8) I would like to see more details including pricing. ;) If I am not mistaken, the picture Hyde sent out is an aluminum version. I wonder if they will offer it in fiberglass. ???

Amen to that.  I've always wondered why someone doesn't try to make a gheenoe/riverhawk style hull out of a synthetic material similar to what Old Town Canoes are made of.  You'd have to make it a little thicker, of course, but it would seem to me that the durability for running over rocks would be hard to beat. 

You can pretty much pound the Old Towns with a sledge hammer and they'll just pop back to their original shape.  Try that with fiberglass!

If you could add that "outrigger" style hull for stability, it would make a heck of a nice boat.
