Sharkskin line...
« on: July 11, 2008, 05:53:13 PM »
This stuff is the BOMB!!! When i put it on my 4wt i gained some distance shooting line. I need much less false casting to make long cast.

In nymphing situations it mends effortlessly, doesn't stick to the water at all. The core of the line is also very supple and has zero memory/coiling when you take it off the reel. The loop at the end of the line doesn't sink and makes a decent indicator when high sticking without a bobber/yarn. Did i mention that it mends like a sumbitch?

I got one of the new rio gold lines and its terrible relative to the sharkskin. I've heard people complain that is blisters their fingers. Those guys must not have working man hands. I already have a callus there from fishing with a normal fly lines and doing construction for years. It has not caused any problems for me. I could see it causing an issue on a streamer rod where you are constantly jerking the line, but for a nymph or dry fly situation there is nothing better.

If you haven't tried it yet get out to one of the shops and see it they have one you can demo in the parking lot. You'll get to see how well it shoots, but remember where this stuff really shines is when it is time to mend.
