The Weekend in Pictures.
« on: October 01, 2006, 10:16:30 PM »
Regrettably I did a lousy job of documenting some very nice fish. BD and I Fished Sat and had a stellar trip. Sat I hooked up with Bill Price and it started out good but tapered down to smaller fish in fast water. Both days were awesome weather and good company. Here are some highlights of the trip. Like I said I was too busy fishing and didn’t bother to get shots of the majority of nice fish including two very nice Browns that took a nymph.
Enjoy!

Saw some of these but Caddis was the main bug in the air. I Don't know why I didn't get a shot of one...

We caught lots of these.

We did lots of this.

And Sat right about dark I was rewarded with one of these. I didn't have my Bocas or a net but guesstimate is about 15 pounds. I was throwing a Clouser with a 7wt. Needless to say it was quite a battle and I really started to appreciate my Ross Evo about 5 min into the fight. :o

Way to go guys!

Glad you hung the stripe on the fly Mike, that's cool.
Yesterday, I was at the bottom. I was at the bottom of a valley, in the river. Then my eyes hiked up the mountains to the snow capped peaks. I thought, "When I am at this lowest place I can be, standing in a river, everything is looking up."

You should have heard him - "Did you get the flyrod in the shot?"

Looks to me like he had a great photographer on board. Doesn't look like you did though.  ;D

Nice looking fish guys.

I'm kinda partial to the shot of the striper where Mike is holding it horizontally with the head facing the camera and the tail away from the lens.

How large a Clouser were you throwing Mike?

Great shots - again!  And nice fish!!!

I was out on the Caney Sat. morning from about 7 am to noon near the Lancaster area.  I kept a dry fly on the whole time I fished (Parachute black ant, or a Dark Brown Caddis) and caught and released around 20 fish, with a few going up to 15 inches, but alot of stockers as well.  I just concentrated casting to the risers, and had a blast. Most catches came immediately as the fly hit the water, or after a very short drift.  A bit of change from my normal nymph or Wooly Bugger fishing on the Caney.

Wish I could get down far enough to get into some Striper and / or bigger trout, but without a boat I have to stick to the wadeable areas...

Tim, it was tied on a 1/0.

Todd, the big fish are headed your way.

Ron, BD caught some big Trout but I was too far to walk up and take a pic.  ;) He had just caught a really nice Trout when I snagged that Striper. I was getting tired of watching his head swell with those fat Trout, so I trumped him with a Striper. Then he tried to Rook my Striper with unsportsmanship like behavior.
Funny story, I was too busy fighting the Striper and couldn't operate the remote control trolling motor. “Hey Brian can you run the trolling motor”(Ross drag screaming in the background). (With smirk on his face) “SURE,, give me the remote”. I handed him the control and the ride began... We went 360 to the right, then 360 to the left, then full speed ahead, and sharp right again. It was like ridding a mechanical bull and fly fishing at the same time. On top of that he was filling my head with the delusion that I had hooked a giant Brown Trout and not a Striper (Now that was just mean). If I didn't know better I would have sworn he was trying to cause me to break off my fish….. If someone video taped it you’d pee your pants watching, it was funny as hell.

You know, as stressful as fishing gets sometimes, it’s the best therapy money can buy and times like those are what keeps me on the water.

Thanks Mike, I hope I can get back out some in Oct / Nov and find some of those big fish   8)

How far down river were you where you hooked up with the Striper?  Just curious how far in from the confluence they come up...

Thanks,

Todd

So being tied on a 1/0 makes it something on the order of 4" OAL?

That sounds like America's Funniest Video material there. Too cool.

That's one incredibly detailed, finely focussed mayfly shot! One of the best I've seen period. The striper shots came up here at work but not the other pics....wow!! You boys are so fortunate.

Impressive. (Excuse me whilst I drool....)

Jeremy.
