HP to weight ratio
« on: August 08, 2008, 07:42:40 AM »
I need some feedback...

Do you think that a 5hp motor would be strong enough to push a Gheenoe or a Riverhawk with 2-3 people and gear, or should I look for a larger motor?

What size is the Rhawk or the Gheenoe?  My guess would be that yest it will push it but the speed would be thing.  I would probably look at a 9.9 minimum

I have an old Merc 20 hp and its perfect.  I dont run it wide open on the Caney, but it gets me to where I need to go on Priest.  If you buy less then what you realy want it going to cost your more in the long run.

After have too small of a motor I would go for the largest it is rated for.  I have a friend with a Peenoe, same thing as the gheenoe and he has a 8hp honda 4 stroke and it's fine with 2 but pushing it up stream with generators for 3.  If you're going to put around the lake that's one thing but when they crank the generators up you need all you can get.

A 2 stroke 5 HP will push 2, a 4 stroke would crawl 2 :o

I think you ought to find a wedge to put in it, just get a bigger gas tank!!
